Steps To Certification

1. Acquire a minimum of 16 ICEA approved contact hours by attending the Professional Childbirth Educator Workshop.


2. Complete the required reading list.


3. Successfully complete an evaluated teaching series.


4. Observe a minimum of two labors and/or births.


5. After steps 1-4 are completed, apply to take the certification examination.

Educator Workshops

Workshops provided by Margaret (Peggy) Neal are approved by the International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA) and are designed to offer comprehensive training and strengthen education skills. This evidence-based program is also a wonderful refresher for labor and delivery and postpartum nurses, lactation consultants and nurse managers who wish to improve their skills in supporting women and families through the process of labor, birth and postpartum. 

Attending the 16-hour workshop will meet the contact hour requirements for ICEA Childbirth Educator Certification. You can learn more about this process by going to www.icea.org. These workshops are also approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing to award 16 Nursing Contact Hours.
